Neighborhood Planning Unit-T (NPU-T) is an organization of 10 neighborhood associations situated southwest of Atlanta's Central Business District ranging North from Martin Luther King Drive, East to NorthSide Drive and West Whitehall Street, South to Donnelly and Beccher, East to South Gordon Derry and Laurel to Interstate 20. (See sites). It is one of 26 planning units in Atlanta initiated under the Maynard Jackson Administration to bring the City and citizens together to deal with urban problems at the neighborhood level. NPU-T originated in 1974, by City Council Ordinance from federal 701 planning grants monies, for the creation of neighborhood planning committees (NPCs) and neighborhood planning units (NPUs) as a forum for the discussion of area-wide issues, community problems, and mechanisms to solve them, and to increase the livability of human habitation. In May 1975, 185 neighborhoods were organized into 24 NPUs.
